Slow road ahead! Join shorter walks along the pilgrim route from Dovre to Nidaros, hear about people and traffic over the mountain and the mountain Vikings’ unique burial site in Oppdal. Learn about the period before and after the great battle of Stiklestad in 1030 and the viking and saintly king, Olav Haraldsson.

Day 1: Walking along the leden/old path Dovre – Hjerkinn
Pilgrim priest Hans Jacob Dahl takes us on a 3 hour hike along the pilgrim’s path, where we start at Hjerkinn. In beautiful surroundings, we get acquainted with old animal graves and journey memories, of people and traffic over the mountain. With a short bus journey we drive on to Kongsvold for a delicious lunch. This venerable lodge have traditions dating back to the 1100’s and the host gives us insight into Kongvold’s history. We travel on to Oppdal where we will continue on a short walk along the path that goes through the largest burial mounds from the Iron Age, the burial ground Vang. We hear about “Mountain Vikings’ life and work through the times. Before we overnight in Oppdal, we’ll take a trip to Oppdal museum where we get served good traditional food in pleasant surroundings.

Day 2: With Nidaros in sight
Before we take the bus towards Trondheim, we prepare ourselves a good packed lunch to enjoy during the walk that starts from Lian. We are led by Pilgrimf priest Morten Andreas Carlmark at Nidaros Pilgrim farm on this trip, which takes about 3-4 hours. We pass Sverresborg Museum and walk towards an evocative and beautiful end of the walk in Nidaros Cathedral. We stay overnight at the Nidaros Pilegrimsgård or Britannia Hotel- it is up to you on. We enjoy a very much deserved dinner in the evening.

Day 3: Frosta- Tautra- Stiklestad
From Trondheim, we travel to the Frosta where a local guide will tell us more about Frostatinget and Frostating Law. We travel on to Klostergården on Tautra where we will look at the ancient abbey ruins and hear about monasticism. We visit Klostergården’s ceramics, flowers- and vegetable shop. Then we will visit Mariaklosteret where we will witness the nun’s prayer service. We will enjoy a good lunch in Klostergården. The journey goes to Stiklestad where we will get more insight into the history of the period before and after the battle. We end the day with a delicious meal in the newly built medieval farm Stiklastadir. Accommodation at Stiklestad Hotel.

Day 4: Stiklestad- Golden Route- Homebound
Our journey continues by bus from Stiklestad and along the beautiful “Golden Route” at Inderøya. As a great end to this historical journey, we stop at a local gallery and relax with a good lunch in beautiful farm setting before the journey home begins.
