With the E6 highway as your guide for the first part of the trip, it’s easy to find your way. In the valley of Vuddudalen, south of Åsen, you will see Kortmans candle factory on your left. Kortmans, which dates from 1896, is Norway’s oldest candle factory and sells a wide variety of candles and accessories. You will also find the Central Norwegian Fire Museum here. The factory sales outlet is bursting with candles for every occasion. In addition, tehy have wide range of candle holders and accessories, gifts, napkins, handmade soap and old-fashioned candy mixtures.

Continue northwards on the E6 to downtown Verdal and Ørens Meirei, a restaurant right in the heart of town surrounded by lovely niche stores. You can relax over a good lunch made from locally sourced ingredients, either inside the hotel or in the courtyard.

Satisfied after your lunch and ready for new experiences, it’s time to head towards Inderøy and the Golden Route where the experiences are like pearls on a string in the beautiful cultural landscape! First stop is Straumen, a cosy little village with old wooden houses close together, where you can experience Muustrø Park and Nils Aas Kunstverksted (art studio).

Continue westwards to Inderøy Gårdsbryggeri (farm brewery) where beer is brewed in accordance with old traditions. In addition, a range of products connected with beer and brewing are on sale.

Drive via general store on Berg Gård (farm) and stop for an ice cream and exciting cheeses at Gangstad Gårdsysteri (farm cheese factory) before you return to the E6 and drive into Steinkjer. In Steinkjer we recommend staying at:

Quality Hotel Grand

Best Western Tingvold Park Hotel

Both hotels have comfortable beds and serve dinner. In downtown Steinkjer there are pleasant niche shops and restaurants as well as a large shopping centre and several historic places such as the ancient stone formation at Tingvold. After a good night’s sleep in Steinkjer you are ready for another day of adventure. Instead of following the E6 south, we recommend taking route 759 along the shores of Lake Leksdalvannet to the Stiklestad National Cultural Centre where you can experience the history of Norway. Stiklestad has a central role in Norway’s history as the place where King Olav II was killed in the Battle of Stiklestad in 1030 as part of the Christianization of Norway. Enjoy lunch at the restaurant Skalden at Stiklestad before continuing on to the wooden house town of Levanger.

In Levanger we recommend a stop at Galleri Fenka, the old prison in Levanger. Today Fenka is a private gallery over three floors with more than 400 m² of exhibition space. In the basement you will find the old dungeons, ground floor houses the foyer, glass gallery and prison cells with ceramics, paintings and various crafts. The old council chamber is situated upstairs. It hosts the main exhibitions. The former exercise yard for inmates are now exotic outdoor café and meeting place.

Continue driving southwards on the E6 and make a stop at the Falstad Centre, Norwegian Memorial and Human Rights Centre, which features a permanent museum exhibition and temporary exhibitions. When you return to the E6 it’s time for all the impressions to sink in. We wish you a safe onward journey, welcome back to Innherred and thank you for visiting!
